It's okay to QUIT!

This week, I’m thinking a lot about QUITTING.

Growing up, we’re taught that we shouldn’t be quitters… that we should stick it out even if we’re unhappy. Kind of like the belief that work should be a struggle because it builds character.

There are a million quotes that say successful people don’t quit… winners never quit… or “it’s okay to fail; it’s not okay to quit.”

Pay attention to your feelings – mental (anxiety) or physical signs that tell you that you want to quit. What feeling arises for you when you know you want to quit something? Start noticing this and explore the feelings. You’ll become quite attuned to what your body is telling you.

This week’s easily digestible tidbit is:
Drop this belief that you shouldn’t quit.

Change your mindset. Believe that it’s worthwhile and respectable to quit things that aren’t serving you. Know and trust in yourself that you’re doing the right thing. You have to quit the wrong things in order to grow and explore what’s ‘right.’

You can – and you should – quit!  Don’t feel guilty. Don’t feel shameful. Allow others to quit and don’t judge them for it. Know they are doing it because they feel it is best for themselves.

When you quit, remember that you can’t control others’ responses, but you can take solace in the fact that you were true and genuine to yourself.

Of all strategies, knowing when to quit may be the best.

This week’s thought provoking questions:
What makes you uncomfortable about quitting something? When have you regretted not quitting? What do you want to quit right now?

This week’s appreciation | motivation | recognition idea:
Identify something you DON’T want to quit and show your appreciation and gratitude for this item, person, or experience that you want to nurture.
